Declutter a Closet
A messy closet makes it frustrating to get dressed for work. Spend the weekend decluttering your closet. When you’re better organized, it’s easy to see what you have and find what you need.
Begin the project by emptying everything from the closet. Next, clean the area thoroughly. Wipe down the walls and shelving. Vacuum or sweep and mop the floor. If the closet needs a coat of paint, now is a perfect time. After cleaning, separate your clothing into categories: shirts, pants, jackets, shoes, hats, scarves, and accessories. If you enjoy being well-organized, you can take it a step further and sort the shirts into dress shirts, t-shirts, and casual wear.
When you come across items you don’t want or need, collect them in a box to donate to a charity or give to friends. Choose organizational systems to contain the items you choose to keep. Creating a place for everything makes it easier to find what you need.
Weekend Home Improvement: Refinish the Deck
During the warmer months, you and your family will be spending more time on the backyard deck. Make sure the boards are in good repair and that the deck is safe to enjoy. Replace decking boards that are rotting or badly splintered. Sand the entire area and finish it with a stain or weatherproofing product. You’ll prolong the life of the decking materials, make the space more attractive, and improve safety.
Install New Cabinet Hardware
Changing your current drawer pulls and cabinet handles for newer hardware can update the look of your kitchen and/or bathroom. Choose a style that complements the aesthetic of your space. Brushed silver hardware can make a space feel clean and modern, while aged copper or burnished bronze creates a more rustic feel.
In a small kitchen or bathroom, fewer pieces are needed so you can splurge on high-end hardware to personality. New hardware makes the cabinets and drawers stand out.
Revamp Your Entryway for a Quick Weekend Home Improvement Project
The front door is often the first thing that guests notice when they visit your home. Spend the weekend making your entryway more welcoming and boosting curb appeal. Some ideas for easy entryway improvements include painting the front door, decorating with greenery and flowers, and adding a table or patio furniture. Clean your front porch light fixtures, wash the windows, and buy a new doormat. You might plant evergreens in taller planters on either side of the door, install new house numbers, and add lighting to the front steps.
Update a Light Fixture
Older or outdated lighting fixtures can be improved with new glass globes and a coat of paint. Turn off the breaker to your light and remove the fixture. Wash the globes or purchase new ones to replace them. Spray paint is a quick and inexpensive way to update your fixture. Clean the fixture to prepare it for painting. Use a coat of spray primer and allow it to dry completely before spray painting the fixture. Your local hardware store will have spray paint available in a wide range of metallic colors and textures or choose solid white for a classic farmhouse feel.
These easy updates are easy and won’t cost a fortune. Spend some time this weekend tackling easy home improvements that make your living spaces more comfortable and attractive.
